The Sea Took Me
The sea claimed me like a mother
Waves like arms hugging me further
Arms taking me to go where only she knows.
Till I was out my depth
No sand on my toes.
The sea took me like a lover
Waves like hands dragging me under
Hands too tight, I couldn’t withstand her.
Till I was gasping for help
Embarrassed by my shame.
The sea took me like a murderer
Waves like ropes pulling me further
Ropes that tugged and panicked asunder
I was torn like lightning apart from thunder
Was this my last breath?
The sea took me, I nearly let go
The waves comforted me like nobody knows
Comforted in terror, let go of your clothes.
One last glance of land, the coastal shores
As I submerge, one last implore…
The sea took me, exhausted in her arms
But a great German saved me, a confident man
Waded through the water grabbed hold of my hand.
Told me how to jump the waves
All the way back to dry-land.
The sea took me in my dreams last night
Fingers tearing at water’s delight
Letting go in shocking, frantic fright
The sea will always be with me
The sea cradles near my soul
And when the time for me runs out
To the sea is where I’ll go.
